These units are available to income eligible families. The rent for these units are calculated based on 30% of the family’s adjusted gross income. Unit size is assigned based on family composition.
- A criminal background check will be done on family members age 18 and older.
- The family will be notified when their name reaches the top of the waiting list for the town they have requested.
- The family will complete required paperwork and provide information about family composition, income, and assets; as well as any current and/or past landlords.
- The family will need to provide copies of photo IDs, social security cards and birth certificates for all family members.
Once the family information is verified and the family is approved for the program, the family will be contacted to set up a date to move into the available unit. The family must have utilities in their name prior to move-in and pay a $200.00 security deposit.
Once on the program, families will be recertified annually. If the family has changes in income or family composition, they must contact the Public Housing Specialist within 10 days of the change. The family must comply with all terms of the lease at all times. In addition to an annual inspection, there will be periodic inspections of the rental unit of which the family will be notified in advance.
Questions regarding Public Housing may be directed to Veronica Christensen by email or phone. You can click on the application link at the bottom of this page and print an application or you may pick up an application at SIRHA’s office. The length of the waiting list depends on the size of the unit for which the family qualifies and vacancies in the area where the family wishes to live.
