Southern Iowa Regional Housing Authority (SIRHA) provides rent assistance or rent subsidy to low income individuals, families, elderly, or disabled who meet qualifying program guidelines utilizing the different programs we offer.
SIRHA operates 2 rental assistance programs: Public Housing (125 units) and Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program (1132 vouchers).
Public Housing Program
SIRHA is the landlord and rents these units to eligible families. Our Public Housing units are scattered throughout six counties.
Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program
Families with a Section 8 voucher choose and lease safe, decent, and affordable privately owned rental housing. Participants are able to find their own housing; including single-family homes, duplexes, apartments, and mobile homes.
Please note if you are interested in one or both programs you must fill out a preliminary SIRHA application. You may call or email SIRHA and request an application to be mailed to you or you may click on the preliminary application link.
WAITING LIST PREFERENCES
SIRHA has adopted a waiting list and gives preferences based on Residency and/or Veterans.
What happens if I move before I reach the top of the list?
We contact families when they are at the top of the waiting list. Periodically, we may also contact families to update information on our waiting list. Therefore, families must contact us in writing at the following address in order to maintain eligibility.
